Does DEAM help with rent assistance?
No, we do not. Contact Dekalb Coordinated Intake at (404) 687-3500 or the United Way 211 for a list of agencies that do assist.
Which Marta bus goes by the DEAM office?
The 17 and 120 bus go by our office. Additionally, we are located within walking distance of both the Avondale and Decatur train stations.
How often can I get food from the DEAM pantry?
Clients are able to make an appointment to visit the pantry once a week if needed.
How often can I get help with a utility bill?
Households can recieve assistance with multiple utilities, however the total of DEAM’s assistance can not exceed our yearly maximum, which is decided by current donations.
The phone is always busy or nobody answers...how can I make an appointment?
Our office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30-11:30. Phones are not answered outside of that time.
Do I need to bring my doctor's prescription with me to get help with my medicine?
No. In order for DEAM to assist a client with prescription medication, the clients must first turn in the doctor’s prescription at their pharmacy. When the client calls DEAM for help, we will call the pharmacy at ask them the exact cost of the prescription. We can then write the pharmacy a check that the client must pick up before visiting the pharmacy.
How often can I get help with medication?
We can help a client with up to $125 in prescription costs in any one month, however there is a yearly maximum of $250.
Can I get food at DEAM any day of the week?
The DEAM pantry is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday by appointment.
Lunches are served Monday – Friday.
I'm already in the system, so why do I have to bring proof of address annually?
Folks move around, and our service area is limited. We require a proof of address once a year. This can be a recent piece of mail or an online utility bill.
What do I need to bring with me on my first visit to DEAM?
A picture ID and a proof of address, such as a recent piece of mail or an online utility bill.
What is the DEAM service area?
DEAM currently serves all residents winthin these 7 zip codes: 30002, 30030, 30032, 30033, 30079, 30307, and 30317.
Can DEAM help me get my utility service restored if it has already been cut off?
In many cases YES. Call the office with your account number, and we will see what we can do.
What if the amount that is past due is more than the amount that DEAM will pay?
We may be able to help. Call the office and a volunteer will work see what we can do. We will do our best to help neighbors avoid disconnection.
Where can I get help if I am outside DEAM's service area?
Refer to Eligibility and Resources for a list of other organizations that provide a food pantry and or financial services.
Does DEAM help with telephone bills?
Not at our office. However, we have partnered with First Baptist Decatur to provide cell phone assitance. They can be reached Monday mornings at 470-733-1747.
